The Tulane Philosophy and English Departments in connection with the Cognitive Studies Program invite applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor to start fall 2021. Teaching responsibilities will include expository science writing and one or more of the core Cognitive Studies courses, such as: Mind in Evolution, Consciousness, Foundations of Cognitive Science, and Language and Thought.  Writing courses will be capped at 15 students each. The teaching load is a 3-3; all courses are at the undergraduate level.

Required materials include a cover letter describing qualifications and interest, a current CV, a writing sample (35pp. or less), three letters of recommendation, and evidence of teaching effectiveness, including course evaluations. The candidate is expected to have a PhD in Philosophy and to specialize in the areas of philosophy of psychology, cognitive science, and/or neuroscience.  Experience teaching expository writing is a benefit. The successful candidate should be familiar with pedagogical principles of effective composition instruction: the teaching of writing as a process, the use of draft workshops, and the importance of revision.
